Slippery Elm Bark is the bark of the Slippery Elm tree. A tree in the Elm family that can live up to 200 years old. It is known and valued for its bark which played an important part in the lives of Native Americans. The inner bark contains a starchy carbohydrate substance called mucilage. When it’s mixed with water it swells and forms a slippery gel. Mucilage is used as a soothing demulcent. Demulcents offers soothing support for mucous membranes*.
